Ibogaine – In popular culture

Ibogaine - In popular culture Ibogaine first appeared in popular culture in the writings of Hunter S. Thompson. While covering the Wisconsin primaries of the 1972 Presidential primaries for Rolling Stone magazine, Thompson claimed that presidential candidate Edmund Muskie showed symptoms of being under the influence of Ibogaine. This assertion was later revealed by Thompson to be false, one that he had planted as media bait. He himself was surprised when the leading media outlets picked up the story and ran with it. It also appeared in the seventh episode of the eleventh season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In the episode, Doctor Huang administers Ibogaine to a heroin addict so that he can testify against a murderer

Documentary maker may film his own death

AN ACCLAIMED documentary maker has admitted that he is prepared to die while filming himself taking a powerful hallucinogenic drug that has been hailed as a cure for addiction but linked to a number of deaths around the world. David Graham Scott, who is based in Glasgow, said that he will take the controversial drug, ibogaine, in a film that will form the final part of his trilogy on Scotland's drugs culture. In the documentary, provisionally titled The Quick Fix, Scott intends to overcome his own methadone addiction, which he says has plagued him since he stopped using street heroin and prescribed drugs 15 years ago. Under the supervision of colleagues who are working to set up an ibogaine clinic in London, and a recording team, Scott will be filmed next month undergoing an intense 36-hour hallucinogenic "trip", from which he hopes to emerge free from his addiction. Although the substance is legal in the UK, where it is classed as an unlicensed, experimental drug, there are wider concerns over its safety. The drug has been banned in the US, Belgium and Switzerland and experts also say that in recent years ibogaine is known to have contributed to at least four deaths in Europe. Last year, a 35-year-old woman died after taking 500mg of the drug during an informal ibogaine session in Germany. In 2001, an inquest in London into the case of JW, a 40-year-old heroin addict, ruled that the man had died principally from a fatal reaction to…

The Session

Ibogaine Session An hour after administration the person will express a desire to lay down and get comfortable. A quiet, darkened room, especially prepared in a personalized, though non-distracting, manner is made available for this purpose. The room is darkened because light bothers most people on Iboga. The room is quiet because sound is usually experienced in an amplified and oscillating way. The subject generally experiences ataxia during movement, which is loss of muscular coordination similar to drunkenness. Since the ataxia is sometimes accompanied by vomiting, he or she is asked to lay still with the least amount of motion as possible. When closing the eyes, approximately 75% of people experience dream-like visions. However, when the person opens his/her eyes and are talked to, there seem to be no real visual or auditory distortions and some level of communication is possible but usually not preferred by the person. People describe the visionary and auditory elements of the Iboga experience as a state of “dreaming wide awake.” Visions can occur in a repetitive mode. They often report visualizing a rapid run-through of their lives and/or the lives of family members, even of those who have already past away. They have noted the ability of going both backward and forward in time and being able to come to an understanding of their spiritual roots. The visions may appear to be actual memories running, rather as though a film of one's life was being shown inside the head, or may take the form…

The treatment program

Ibogaine Treatment Program The decision to undergo an iboga treatment must be a well considered and reasoned and motivated decision. Taking iboga is a serious step in one’s life which should not be underestimated. The program looks something like this, so that you can create a picture in your mind. First, a questionnaire will be sent to you to fill in about your personal health situation, motivation and potential addiction problems. Based on the above mentioned data there can be established treatment plan formed and with that it will tell you how you should prepare for treatment. Upon arrival you will find yourself in a personal interview, where the treatment is explained and the dose of iboga is determined. A room will be given and where one can quietly install and prepare for the treatment. Then there are a number of personal interviews for the purpose of gaining insight into the expectations and to clear up the possible effects of iboga. At the moment when the person is ready, we have fasted at least 12 hours and the reasonable dose is determined, one will ingest the Iboga. The effect of the iboga takes about 40 hours. The first 24 hours will be in bed, and then you can calmly get up and eat if you need it. After this phase, a number of personal interviews are carried out to see how the treatment is conducted and how to go further. There will also be looked at and considered whether there…

Chemistry of Ibogaine

Chemistry of Ibogaine Recent studies have shown that the primary metabolite from Ibogaine itself interacts with numerous neuron receptor transporters and neuronal networks within the mobile network and in the activity of dopaminergic-dependent and independent modulation circuits. Ibogaine takes the brain activity back into a healthy balance. Ibogaine actions are reported to reduce dopamine concentrations in the body. This is evidenced by the presence of dopamine metabolites dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) and homovanillic acid (HVA) in larger quantities after Ibogaine administration. This action of Ibogaine is to reverse the impact of drug abuse of some highly addictive drugs, Name: * Cocaine * Morphine * Amphetamines * Crack cocaine * Nicotine * Alcohol All these drugs act on dopamine dopaminergic systems and stimulate the body. Ibogaine is a tryptamine. It has two separate chiral centers, meaning that there are four different stereoisomers of ibogaine. These four isomers are difficult to resolve. Synthesis One recent total synthesis of ibogaine and related drugs starts with 2-iodo-4-methoxyaniline which is reacted with triethyl((4-(triethylsilyl)but-3-yn-1-yl)oxy)silane using palladium acetate in DMF to form 2-(triethylsilyl)-3-(2-((triethylsilyl)oxy)ethyl)-1H-indole. This is converted using N-iodosuccinamide and then fluoride to form 2-(2-iodo-1H-indol-3-yl)ethanol. This is treated with iodine, triphenyl phosphine, and imidazole to form 2-iodo-3-(2-iodoethyl)-1H-indole. Then, using 7-ethyl-2-azabicyclooct-5-ene and cesium carbonate in acetonitrile, the ibogaine precursor 7-ethyl-2-(2-(2-iodo-1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl)-2-azabicyclooct-5-ene is obtained. Using palladium acetate in DMF, the ibogaine is obtained. If the exo ethyl group on the 2-azabicyclooctane system in ibogaine is replaced with an endo ethyl, then epiibogaine is formed. Crystalline ibogaine hydrochloride is typically produced by semi-synthesis from voacangine in commercial laboratories. Derivatives A synthetic derivative of ibogaine, 18-methoxycoronaridine (18-MC), is a selective α3β4 antagonist that was developed collaboratively by the neurologist…

Studies endorse that Ibogaine has considerable potential in the treatment of hard drug addiction for example heroin, suboxone, methadone, cocaine, crack and alcohol. There are also indications that it may be useful in the treatment of tobacco addiction. Ibogaine also offers opportunities as psychotherapy and/or spiritual teacher. In the field of psychotherapy, Ibogaine can be used as a treatment for the effects of trauma or conditioning, like asthma, cornice pain etc. The difference between Ibogaine and Iboga root bark is that the root bark alkaloids contain and include the Ibogaine Tabernanthe alkaloids which are extracted from the Iboga root bark. Ibogaine extract contains only scientifically recognized alkaloid with the known actions. Iboga World Iboga World specializes in and is…

Ibogaine as an addiction breaker

Ibogaine as an addiction breaker A single administration of Ibogaine has several useful functions in drug treatment. First it causes a huge reduction in withdrawal symptoms, which can be detoxified relatively painless. Secondly, withdrawal symptoms are greatly reduced. The strong desire disappears and gives way to a clear consciousness. Finally, the psychoactive dreams state helps the patients understand underlying issues in their life that may have caused them to start using drugs in order to solve those problems and therefore change their behavior and thus completely eliminate addiction. Please note: Despite the excellent potential which Ibogaine offers to treat addiction, it should be clear that Ibogaine will not help everyone. It is important that there is dedicated motivation and the ability to change the environment. Ibogaine may well break an addiction, but it is not a panacea. Iboga Root Bark

Iboga Root Bark is a yellowish root of the Iboga tree which contains beneficial alkaloids, which is used to treat addiction and also enrich one spiritually. The bark of the root is shaved and dried, and then it is processed in a professional laboratory into a pure carrot color powder. Iboga Root Bark has been traditionally used in Africa for many generations, for the purpose of spiritual growth. Nowadays in the western world it is being used for spiritual, therapeutic and addiction-breaking operations. The effects of the root have been known in the local West-African tribes for generations. They use Iboga as traditional medicine and for spiritual purposes. The special effect from the Iboga tree which is listed by the Bwiti tribe as “tree of knowledge” has only been published and known in the Western world for several years. The first reference being made of Iboga in Europe was in a botanical reference from 1889. In 1901 the researchers Dybowski en Landrin were the first who made an extract of the Iboga Root Bark which they called Ibogaine. In the sixties, the addiction-breaking effect was discovered by an American who was a former heroin addict, Howard Lotsof. In taking a dose of Iboga and discovering that he no longer had to suffer withdrawal symptoms. Howard has used this special effect to publish the breaking of addiction among physicians, pharmaceutical companies and addicts. Iboga Root Bark Scientific research shows a drastic reduction in withdrawal symptoms after taking Iboga root bark or…
