Ibogaine is the purified form of iboga from the roots of a flowering African shrub known as Tabernanthe iboga. Ibogaine was first discovered by the Bwiti tribal members of West Africa Over one thousand years ago. The Bwiti would ingest low doses of Ibogaine by chewing the root bark of the Iboga shrub. Ibogaine was primarily used by the Bwiti to stave off hunger fatigue while on long hunting trips.
